Hi,
I just moved my 10 and 5g tanks into a 20 gallon and the next day there was some foam on top of the water.
What could cause this?

I usesd mostly new gravel but then topped it off with gravel from the other tanks - it was kept wet in between - I also moved over all the filter media so I should think it should be able to support the same number of fish right off. (One female betta, 2 endlers, a few snails and baby shrimp.) Right? (and filled with plants, planted and floating.)

Ideas?

Thanks.

I've never had this happen just from moving a tank. Maybe a picture would help to give someone a better clue as to what may be causing it...

Any possibility of soap being introduced into the tank? Sometimes high dissolved organic compounds (DOCs) can create a film on the surface of the water and something like a hang on the back filter with a low water level could cause some foaming. Pictures certainly could help.

It sounds like you may have toxed out the bacteria from the old gravel. If the water chemistry i too different then it is possible. I'd be testing water twice daily and be ready with the carbon if needed. If it turns, it will do so quickly. If you don't have carbon get some.

I'd do a partial or even a large water change to see if the foaming stops and measure your water parameters.

If the fish are acting fine, I wouldn't worry about it provided the WC makes it go away.
