I recently got a 5 gallon acrylic tank and some of wal-marts "Aqua-Culture" white gravel substrate. After rinsing the gravel in a collender and using distilled water it turned by water almost opaque and I could see the water was full of a sort of dust from the gravel. I took the gravel out and rinsed it for no less than a solid half hour by hand before trying again with the same problem. Finaly I used a small fish net to literaly wash 5lb of gravel 1 table spoon at a time. This finaly got rid of almost all of the dust in the water but 24 hours later the water has gotten foggy again though not to the same extent. I havent seen anyone with this problem on the boards in referance to the aqua culture, can anyone help?

Thank You

I am hoping there are no fish at the moment int he tank. If that is the case then it is just a matter of waiting for it to settle. If you have an HOB filter (hang on back) see if you can add some filter floss. It is good at trapping particles and can speed up the process.

This can often happen with ssome kinds of substarte, though I don't know much about "Aqua-Culture".

wow, i got some blue gravel form wal-mart and my water didnt get a blue cloud. Stick to what TKOS said, you should also ask the people at either wal-mart or at your LFS, they might know as well
