ok. so i have heard alot about people feeding their pleco's some form of fresh veggies.
i have a baby ( maybe 2. inch) clown pleco, and i am wondering as to what it would like, and how to prepare the fresh veggies. i have heard about steaming them, just cutting them up raw, heating them a little.

So whats the best way to go about this??
THANKS

The diet for Panaque maccus, according to planetcatfish.com:

A wood-eating fish, the tank should be decorated with several different types of driftwood. These fish really like to have something to chew on and squash, cucumber, and other vegetables should be readily available to them (yams are a favourite). Supplement two to three times weekly with frozen foods.

All you need to do is cut up the Veggies and toss it in. No cooking necessary. I feed my Plecos Algae Wafers and Zucchini. I also have some Driftwood in the tank.

there is 3 pieces of driftwood so far, and one more coming in a few weeks.

so just cut up some cucumber and "yams??" and throw them in ??

how much, just a slice or two?
daily?

It would probably be easier to buy a bag of frozen squash (yellow and/or zucchini) slices at the market and just use a couple of those at a time for one pleco. I use a whole fresh zucchini, but I have several tanks holding dozens of BN to spread it among. Canned green beans also disappear quite fast. You do need to provide driftwood as well, Panaques will die w/out it.

Yeah, clown pleco really luv to munch on driftwood. My clown (over 11years) has reduced a 3inch thick driftwood down to less than half an inch. Algae wafers are good and amazingly they also sometimes much on shrimp pellets.

what i do for my pleco is take a whole zuchinni, wash it well, cut it into slices (rounds), and toss them in the freezer in a ziploc. when it's time to feed, take one slice, put on veggie clip. tada! zucchini-cicles. lol. works great and my angry lil pleco doesn't seem to mind getting brain freeze, hahaha. and the freezing seems to soften them a little, kinda like blanching.
