I just got a 1.5in or so severum and noticed it doesn't seem to like flake food, doesn't pay any attention to algae tablets, and today I got some cichlid pellets but the thing is they float and the severum stays around the bottom of the tank if out in the open water and the rest of the time it hides. I also got some kind of pellet food for tropical fish in general and these don't float but they seem too big for the severum to swallow right now. Not sure what else to try. The only thing it WILL it are baby pellets intended to be fry food, but those are sooo tiny I dont see how it would be enough for a fish that is suppose to eventually get 8-10 or so inches. Hope I don't have a picky eater on my hands haha.

I have the perfect food, my severum and all my other fish LOVE it- HBH super soft food! It sinks and comes in different sizes, but I have larger pellets for my sev and all my smaller fish seem to handle it just fine, its soft so they just nibble on it.

I feed all my cichlids HBH Super Soft Pellets, they tear into them like there's no tomorrow. I highly recommend them, i use the HBH with krill, it has color enhancers in it to help brighten the fishes colors. Also try some frozen brine shrimp. Never stick to just one food for fish, feed them a couple different things with different ingredients, it helps to balance out there diet.

I feed my cichlids hbh super soft pellets with krill, frozen brine shrimp, and cichlid stix. These keep their diet steady and offers each fish an alternative to the other food i use.

Wish I hadn't already went to the LFS today and bought food....Here's all the food I have at the moment: Hikari Cichlid Staple baby floating pellets, HBH baby bites (this is what the severum will eat but the bites are reallll small, small enough for fry to eat), TetraColor tropical flakes, and Bio--Blend color enhancing "floating and sinking wafers" (small but not as small as the HBH baby bites, i think it attempts to eat these).

I went back to the LFS and got the HBH Super Soft pellets but they had two kinds: Spirulina or Krill...I didn't know which to choose or if it didn't really matter so I picked Spirulina. Good choice? (They all eat it so I guess thats a good thing haha)

Doesn't matter. Either way, I expect you vary the menu anyway.;) I bought my sevs at that almost same size and they grew to 3 inches in barely a month.:) Been feeding them bloodworms, shrimps, shrimp pellets, flakes, mosquito larva and food tablets.
