For those of us with only one tank

How do you guys out there with only one tank handle it? I have too many ideas for just one tank. I just got inspired to get gravel after looking at off-ices's webpage. But i like my sand and dont want to get rid of it. I also have black and white sand and the white sand isnt even being used. And i want cichlids, but i also want a planted tank with a softer pH and community fish. I also always wanted an oscar. To make everything worse the tank is only 20 gallons. ( i forgot too mention that i also want a sw Reef tank)
 
I can only have the one I have because my mom has already layed down the law.;) ;) Really though, we don't have any room, and downstairs where there is tons or room and it's a concrete floor, there is no sink, so water changes would be murder with a python. It's really not practicle.
 
Patience is good. Builds moral fiber or something boring like that. ;)

That of course comes from a formerly spoiled brat whose first setup was two tanks, one over the other on those now-antique iron stands. It might have been (I'd like to think so) a 29 over a 20-long, but I suspect it was a 20 over a 15. I survived that as long as I was at home. Once out of school and on my own, then I went really multi-tank.

But I still did not have a dedicated tank room until much later.

I still plan many more tanks that I ever set. The planning is part of the fun. Some get pushed down the priority list for many different reasons; some actually get done. Some of those done become boring after x months and get redone. Some go for 15+ years. I do not feel guilt about the ones I break down from lack of sustained interest - you do not know until you try, right? And everyone has some limitations - space, time, money, and interest are never infinite.
 
Believe me...if $$$ wasn't an issue, I'd have tanks everywhere in the house. So I feel your pain.;)
 
Money wouldnt be an issue, really. I can wait if i know i can have as many tanks as i can fit in my room. I wouldnt mind multiple small tanks either. Im in sorta the same situation with NJ devils fan. My parents wont let me get any more, or a bigger tank.
 
yea my mom make me tear down like a whole bunch of tanks when she decided to get me a 180 but im slowly adding them back one at a time ;) but yea i dont have enough tanks so i sometimes put fish together that arent compatible. like how my angels are eating all of my endlers fry.
 
I started with a 10 gallon when I was a kid, and moved up to the 10 and a 20 when I was in high school. I was only allowed to put them in my room, and my room was already small and cluttered. Now that I have my own house I am slowly filling it with tanks. I bought a 90 shortly after I moved in, and now 3 years later I can afford to get more. I spent a whole afternoon measuring wall space left in my house then going to the LFS to measure the tanks they had. Of course it will probably take me 2 years to buy them all... since I can only afford 1 every 1-3 months depending on the tank size and stand quality. I'm kind of glad about that though, since I feel like it takes 1-3 months for me to plan and set up a tank fully anyway. Or longer...

Don't worry, you'll get to this point eventually!
 
Blitzen, thats what I think I am going to do. I want to start up my little 10g again. I just changed my room. I took out my twin bed, small armoir, and 5' dresser, and added a full size bed and a big armoir which holds all my stuff and then some. I think I will get a really nice, book shelf kind of thing to put my tv on. If there is enough room, I'll add my 10g to it. My mom shouldn't mind because it's out of the way, and I already have an extra bad of onyx sand and the old filter.
 
Bookshelf?

Hard to support a 100 pound tank on a bookshelf!
