How about neither? Seriously, Ford. The DoD only buys GM and Chrysler (*spit*) because we are forced to by standing legislation. Our Ford trucks have always lasted a bit longer than comparable GM offerings and gave somewhat more reliable service. Chrysler is not in the same league as the other two due to bizarre reliability problems...but we have to buy them.

I would like to argue with this. Ford SUCKS. PERIOD. They are very unreliable. I have had experience with both. Ford always had engine problems...always. And it would cost A LOT!!! But Chevy, on the other hand, has way better engines, by far. The only problem with them is that there is a lot of problems with the doors and other stuff and is very very expensive. So I would have to go with Chevy!!! :D

i am all out chevy, the only ford i could ever own would be an early to mid 90's T-bird/cougar. Other then that i dont like any of it, especially with all there new retro bs. Come on now, lets actuaully design a car, not take one from the 50/60's and modernize it.

I agree wiht the Chevy part, but I would'nt buy a Ford period. And I agree with the retro BS. Well I would design new cars and also keep modernizing old cars. Until people want the new designs.

:D I've always loved the vette, nova, SS and camaro. Looks and runs great. Given the choice of Ford or Chevy, Chevy's better IMO.

I have owned 7 fords and two GM products. I have pent 20 times as much money on the GM products as I have the Fords, and totaled about 10% as much mileage. I do not allow folks with GM products to park them in my Driveway for fear of getting blocked in. I have had 2 ford pick-ups with over 300,000 miles on them both still dependable at that point. The first was a 1970 models 3/4 ton that I bought with just over 250,000 miles on it. It served me well, started and ran consistantly.

I then owned two full size Bronco's, Both 1978 models. One was a Baja edition, the other was Jacked up redneck style and sitting on massive tires. Both were reasonably dependable, and aside from some minor items they served very well also. I traded one for a BMW 530 I and sold the other. I then bought a Chevy Celebrety 1984 model with high mileage. It did well enough, and got me back and forth to work without much frustration. It did give me fits with the electronics, and cost a bit of money on a couple of occasions. I wrote it off as being normal and acceptablefor an older vehicle.

That car got T-boned, and I Bought a 1993 full sized Blazer with 21,000 miles on it. It was beautiful, and very comfortable. The only real problem with it was how fast my shoes wore out walking down the road on a weekly basis. I dumped endless money and time into that truck. All total in 4 years I spent well over 8,000 on repair (most of which I did the labor on, so that number is primarily parts) I then traded it in on a Ford expedition, and took an additional $5,000 hit because it quite simply wasn't worth anything and I still owed.

That Blazer had constant electrical problems which managed to destroy mechanical parts fairly well also. Nothing would last, nothing would work right for more than a few months, and the vehicle could never be counted on for anything.
In 1997 I bought a brand new F-250 and over the next 7.5 years put 328,000 miles on that truck. In that 320,000 miles I spent less than $4,000 dollars in repairs in that time. Last august I bought another new Ford, but went with an F-350 this time. The primary reason I upsized is that the suspension on the previous truck was wearing out after only 328,000 miles and I hope to make the new truck last longer.
My only complaint with Ford is that they have changed their Cruise control system. Ford has always had the most accurate and dependable cruise control on the market, and the new system sucks. Aside from that the new truck is awesome. I have only put 40,000 miles on it since August so I realy can't say how long or how well it will run, but so far so good.

We have also owned a dodge intrepid, and I was not impressed. My wife's Family all owns Chrysler products because My Brother in law works for Chrysler and gets good discounts. They spend unbelieveable amounts of money keeping their vehcles running. I would take Chrysler over GM any Day, but then I'd take Yugo over GM any day as well.

Since owning my Blazer, I have had reccuring dreams that GM would go bankrupt and all of their facilities would be somehow destroyed. I have developed a hatred for them so great that I cannot even watch their commercials on TV, and often avoid Programs that are "sponsored by GM"

It is really simple to put in perspective. Ford and Dodge advertize how tough their vehicles are, GM advertizes aout how good their GM goodwrench mechanics are. One should take heed of those advertizements.

We have also owned 2 toyata's and a honda accord. all three of which were excellent vehicles. It's almost a shame to me that Neither Toyata or Handa makes a Full sized truck capable of heavy duty work. The full sized offering they do have are not in the realm that I need for a work vehicle.

Dave

Chevy over Ford any day, Honda has great cars. They are very nice with interior and exterior. Also Toyota has very nice engines back with the older cars. Now since people want cheaper cars I believe they don't make those kind of engines any more so now they are not as good.

My Aunt has a 20 year old Toyota Corrola I believe and it has had not one problem with it. And runs perfectly. Only problem is that it doesn't pass smog test.

My second cousin has an older Honda Accord with leather interior. It runs perfectly. The car has just got repainted and looks brand new and runs like brand new too. Only problem is that their engines suck. My cousins just blew up on 5/23/06. It was really F***ed up!!!

My mom has an older Saturn and it runs perfectly. Looks brand new too. My dad used to have a Mitsubishi Galant and it was crap I must say. It had problems with it almost every week. And it went to crap because we did'nt care about it any more.

My dad has a Chevy Suburban 1992 i believe and we ran that thing down. It has way over 100,000 miles on it. Runs perfectly. Not one engine problem. Only problem we had was the gas tank. Since the gas priced went up my dad only puts about $20.00 in the tank. Which is only a few gallons. Enough to drive us here and there. But one day it would'nt turn on. We called AAA and we drove straight to GMAC. Thank God we still had the warranty because we got tank replaced which was like $5,000. Before we got it back we had some seat problems and door problems. The heaters that were built into the seats were'nt working and we got the two front seats replaced. Also the drivers door handle broke inside so we got a new door. When we got it back it was like new. Since then, the door broke again(litteraly it like does'nt even close) and also the passanger side did too. Next the back double doors, the one on the driver's side does'nt open any more so we can only open one of them.

My dad also used to have a 1964 Chevelle Malibu Super Sport fully restored he spent soooo much money on it. I can show you guys pictures. the pictures are below. There was not one problem with it. It was very reliable. My dad sold it about 10 years ago. I wish he had'nt becuase I love this car sooo much. I wanted to drive it when I get older. I believe he sold it for $50,000. Now it would be worth a lot more.

I don't own either of them...just basing it on the realities of using these vehicles for real work. Lots of towing, even pulling small and big jets with them sometimes. Our salvage lot is filled with unserviceable GM products that have endured incredible driveline failures (disintegrating transmissions, failed timing chains, broken rear differentials, you-name-it). We do not exceed the placarded towing capacities of our vehicles. Also, I agree...trim, doors, switches, etc...GM really needs to improve their design and engineering in these areas.

Strangely, with the Chrysler (Dodge) trucks, it's a roll of the dice...most of them endure similar GM-type failures, plus strange ones (complete failure of electronic engine managment systems on new Dodge trucks, truck beds coming loose on the highway, etc.), but once in a while we get one that will not die...ever. Usually, it's one with no options whatsoever. In our case right now, it's a 1990 D1500 w/ a simple 318 cid V8 and 3-spd auto, no O/D.

Our Fords of all types (1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, 1-ton, 2-ton and aircraft tugs) just keep running. If we weren't hamstrung by laws requiring us to buy equivalent numbers of each brand, the USAF would be a Ford-only fleet based on financial and serviceability comparisons (i.e., the Fords cost less to run, and stay running longer).

One nice thing though, The new Chevy pick-ups are coming equipped with Heated tailgates so your hands won't get cold while you're pushing them.
