Nope, the F4D was excellent strike platform, held a world speed record, set new records for combat readiness, very trainable platform, excellent safety record. The "Ford" was "a pilot's airplane."

The Air Corps did test a GM aircraft (Yes, General Motors did once try for a fighter contract with an aircraft of their own design). It failed on numerous test profile objectives and contract specifications, being overweight and clumsy in overall inflight handling. One of the GM prototypes tore apart in flight due to catastrophic structural failure, killing the pilot.

In practice, the objective is to have your number of takeoffs equal your number of landings.

I would like to argue with this. Ford SUCKS. PERIOD. They are very unreliable. I have had experience with both. Ford always had engine problems...always. And it would cost A LOT!!! But Chevy, on the other hand, has way better engines, by far. The only problem with them is that there is a lot of problems with the doors and other stuff and is very very expensive. So I would have to go with Chevy!!!

I agree with you 100% Fords just suck!

i was just meesin around with ya, I just dont like fords for look and peformance for the doller, i just cant believe all the story's about gm's being crap, around here in michigan no one talks about fords or gms having problems(just that most ford cars are underpowered (except GT) but mostly chryslers, the problem is that chryslers give so many discounts and even though theremost of there trans go every 40,000 miles the prices you get thme for are just worth the hassle and end up being worth it in the long run. We have had 2 dodge caravans and so far the 1990 had 6 trans at about 180,000 and that went to the scarp yard, and the one we have right now(1993) is on its 5th trans at 162,000 miles, overall though the engines has been great if you keep up oil changes and regular maintanence, never replaced one in either one. So far our 1996 dodge ram 1500 has held up quite nicely with 76,000 miles and no problems what so ever, But its pampered compared to most dodge rams, cleaned weekly with regular maintnance. Our chevy corvette has been great except for that gas line fitting and so has the our 1997 88 series oldsmobile, has 142,000 miles and the only thing that went bad was an alternator 3 years ago wich was a cheap fix, once again it has gotten regular maintnance. I think it has alot to do with how you treat your cars.

I don't own either of them...just have to use them for work sometimes. We take immaculate care of the vehicles in the DoD, but if the manufacturer says it has a certain working capability, we use it, including four wheel drive a lot more than I thought we would.

Just glad I don't have to quit my day job right now. Also, at my age, I'm just glad I'm not driving the feed wagon!
