Moving to Brackish.
Anableps are brackish, and need a fairly large setup. THey get fairly large, 6-7 inches. A lowered water level is beneficial for viewing, and the tank should be covered.

they can get up to 10 inches depending on the species but you will most likely find them around 5 inches.
they don't use the depth of the tank at all unless spooked and then they just go down from the surface of the water. so a large shallow tank is best suited for them optimum 6-8 feet long, 2 feet wide and 18 inches tall, but filled only 12 inches or so. this optimum is listed as what is needed to breed them as a group so take that into consideration.
they only eat stuff off the surface so you have to be careful what you feed them because anything that drops to the bottom is wasted.

Like many brackish fish, they can live in FW for a while, but long term, this will cause serious health problems for them. If you get them, start them in FW, but plan to gradually raise the salinity to the appropriate level, and restrict tankmates to other brackish fish.
alright, they look really cool and seem like intersting fish. I wanted to get some dragon eels, which are brackish also. maybe I can find some other intersting fish to put with them. thanks for the info. I dind't want to sound ummm, pushy (not the word I want but should get the idea.)
They should be treated like mudskippers, you're kind of limited to only them. They're not really a community fish. I've heard the males can be rather aggressive.
