Thanks guys. Chem, for the most part its a petco show (good as far as petcos go though). But then there is Alaska Coral Maniacs and they have incredible selection. Got an l204 off the shelf for 50 bucks....so...yeah its epic.

Well, I just realized why my angels were laying so many useless eggs....they're both females :rant2:


So, I ran down to the LFS and picked up four Sunset Paraiba juvies...pics to follow soon, they're all still acclimating

I feel like an idiot...but I started with four and they both paired off and started beating up on the other two so I figured that was that. One of those things that you notice all of the sudden and then everything falls into place. They were both pretty thick in the body and seemed to get thinner randomly (I thought it was GI sensitivity and the "male" tended to bloat...DUH), they were laying eggs every two weeks...DUH, all of the eggs died...DUH, during the first two clutches they fought incessantly...DUH:wall:

Okay here we go. I'd love some help working out the exact genetics of these guys. They're Blue Sunset Paraibas...I have to jet to work here so I don't have time to write down what I know for sure. But if anybody wants to take a swing at figuring it out...it'd be much appreciated.

yup, they are regular angels. There is only one species of angelfish its Pterophyllum scalar. All of the different colors are mutations within that species. That being said, the more homozygous recessive alleles the fish has the slower growing and more sensitive the fish will be. So, these guys are fairly sensitive and somewhat slow growing, but they are from very solid and divergent lines (the breeder combines Thai, Phillipino, and American strains so the fish should be fairly sturdy, all considered.)

Okay I've got their genetics

Color: g/g (Homozygous recessive for gold)
Stripes: S/S (homozygous recessive for blushing)
Smokey:+/+ (Homozygous wild for no smoking) - I'm not super sure on this one since they do have black on their fins....are they Sm/+ for the half expression?
Streaked: St/+ or St/St (Streaked is dominant, since they all have blue streaks in their fins and blue iridescent spots on their bodies they have to have at least one copy.)
Half Black: +/+ or +/Hb (could this allele express the blackened fins or would it express on their body as well?)
Pearlscale: +/+ or +/p
Albino: +/+ or +/a (they're gold, not albino)
Philippine Blue: pb/pb (they all have blue on them [their coloration will get much more intense as they mature, they're all still roughly quarter size])

I think I want to breed them to a doubleblack...get a bunch of smokey blues...anyways. Somebody check my work please...I'd like to be as certain as possible before I start breeding.
