One of my guppies is swimming up and down the back corner of the tank where the floating plants are. I don't know if something is wrong or if she is just having fun. She goes up really fast, and then shoots back down fast, then repeats. Is she ok?

How long have you had this guppy? A couple of my dwarf gouramis spent the first couple of days in my tank doing the same thing, now they're fine. I thought they were either seeing their own reflection in the glass, or just kind of checking out their new territory/boundaries.

Is this a new fish that is exploring or a long time resident that just changed her habits? If she has been in there a while, I would start looking for what else has changed. That would include water quality, feeding and food type, decorations or their location, new fish added, etc. Almost any change can affect the actions of your fish but you want to check that nothing is going wrong. Sometimes the fish will tell you something is not right, at other times they really are just playing. It could be something as minor as that corner of the tank having been blocked and she just noticed it had opened up.

Well she has been in there as long as the other fish (1 week), and I am pretty sure that she is pregnant. She is a very light yellow, so her gravid spot is large and orange and I can see black spots in it (fry?). I didn't know if this was something that happens during pregnancy or just random behavior. Here are my stats anyway.

55 Gallon

Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 20
Nitrite: 0
pH: 6.8

Temp: 79F

sounds like nothing to worry about there...just your typical wierdo guppy :)

I had a mutt of a malawi who would would rejoice in his ability to swim into the current from a filter and get shoved back by it for hours on end...'oh wow I'm a fish and I can swim...like this!'...even I was like 'get over it fishy' :D

My female guppies do this just before they give birth. Always in the plants. It' like thy are hiding the fry! Could just be her getting ready to have her brood!

Crap! I have a 10-gallon all setup for this specific reason. My only problem is that I did not get an automatic feeder for that tank, only my big one. If I put her in there now, she would starve! Nooooo! Know how many days it might be before she pops?

Guppies have a gestation period of 4 weeks. When mine start exibiting this behaviour ins usually a matter of a couple days. If she's being really frantic my rule of thumb is its soon. Then she'll stop completely (usually in the plants) have one then start again. Then when I'm posative she's having fry (when I've seen one) I'll put her in my small floating fry tank to have the rest.

Its really up to you. I HAVE to separate my fry as my angels are ruthless when it comes to fry. The last brood I had was 13 fry and I kept them all in the floating tank for a month and a half they were fine in the small tank until they were big enough to go in with the big fishes! I personally wouldn't have a designated 10 gal unless the fry would mean overcrowding the big tank a floating fry tank would be fine!
