Free Fish Food

A lot of folks swear by feeding mosquito larvae........it seems the larvae do just fine when you are NOT trying to feed them! A few leaves in the water would probably create enough infusoria to feed the larvae. Or just a little yeast or dried milk by itself would be sufficient. Just keep an eye on the container to ensure they are not reaching adulthood.

Just a thought,
What is every household in a subdivision was to cultivate larvae in the same manner, I wonder if this would reduce the mosquito population that particular area?
Or better yet, every family put a small pond(kiddy pool) with a couple goldfish out back, what you think this would do to the local mosquito population?

In the county where I live, our mosquito abatement agency will come out and bring you mosquito fish for free, even if you just have a barrel pond.

Thats interesting, I will have to look up the mosquito fish. So how well does this method work? Is the mosquito fish self contained by the larvae or do you have to feed it also?

if there are enough larvae to keep the fish fed, then they will thrive. if there are too many in, say, a barrel pond, then you may have to feed them.

How does one feed using mosquito larvae?
Would you just strain them out of your outdoor tub and swish the net
in the tank?
How much would you feed at a time?

don't forget to rinse, and yeah, pretty much like that. you'll have to get a feel for how many your fish eat, so you know how much to feed.
