Free Photo Editing Software

Does anyone know of any free photo editing software along the lines of Adobe Photoshop? I know that to get all the functionality of Photoshop free is unlikely, just wondered if there was anything close.

Yep. There is a reason why Adobe Photoshop costs hundreds of dollars - not much comes close, even software you pay for.

PICASA is free but doesn't have great abilities. Pretty much the same as MS Photo Editor that comes with Windows. I use it from time to time. Linux has GIMP that is free as well. You can always convert to a bmp and use MS Paint.

windows also has gimp can do everything i do in photoshop... i am not a photoshop pro so i dont do much does take a little time to figure it out.... http://www.gimp.org/

Thanks, I will certainly give gimp a look over. I figured there would be nothing that came close to Photoshop free, and I am far from a photo shop pro, so have probably barely used 50% of what it can do.

i use about 2-4% lol i think anyone using over 10-20% is a pro there is just so many options......
