Hello everyone, once again im back with another question..

can freshwater crab be introduced to a 10gallon tank? just asking bcuz I saw some at my LFS today.. theyr pretty cool! :D Lol

My tank has lava rocks which I thought the crab would like to climb all over since i saw them climbing on the plants and rocks inside the tanks at my LFS.

any ideas on what they eat and how big they get?

You need a piece of wood or rock that extends above the water line.. crabs like to have a land mass to crawl on.
Some are also pretty harsh to fish and will rip plants, but it depends on the species, AFAIK.

there's no such thing as a "freshwater crab" - whats being sold in the stores are usually Fiddler Crabs that tolerate being in freshwater. But as said above, the NEED a land mass or a way to get above water. They are not truly an underwater species and need a terrarium tank or something similar.

Yep, there are a lot of freshwater crabs, but the ones found in stores are usually either Fiddlers or Red claws.

friend of mine has the fiddlers in a tank and there over a year old now.
ive been wondering about them myself but not sure if they will eat plants and snails?
and at 3.00 each there kinda cheap but i know they need brackish water to survive over a few weeks or months. they wont live in strait freshwater or thats what ive been told

totally depends on the species, the FW crabs commonly seen are brackish though the true FW one still command a high price

Vampire crabs are a good choice for a freshwater paludarium, but not aquarium

I was thinking of monas crabs, panther crabs, micro crabs for a totally FW setup. though the first two would like to be species only as they'll eat everyone
