Freshwater Inverts - Australia

If you can get them there are Red Nose, Caridina gracilirostris, in New Guinea. They're all over the place from what I've been told and are pretty decent algae eaters. The larvae need brackish to grow, however, so you won't get offspring in your tank.

I'm getting some for my Rainbowfish tanks. They're pretty dear over here.

You can definately get Ghost (aka Glass) Shrimp in Australia. I've bought them at an Aquarium shop locally. I haven't seen any others however and have been told that custom restrictions prohibits the import of foriegn invertabrates.

I'm not sure of the details though.
 
Indeed, in SA Seaview has them.

Stupid question, but what's the main differences from Ghost Shrimp at a LFS and a similar looking shrimp found in saltwater?
 
Does anyone know where I can get them in NSW?....and do any retailers do mail order livestock?

Indeed? That's interesting, as I guess most information out there relates to the non-australian varieties then.

Does anyone know what differences there are between species, and what the actual scientific names are? Are the Australian ones better or worse algae eaters? are they hardier or more fragile?

How can you tell them apart? Any visual clues?
