Hey, i was at the store today, and saw a couple freshwater lionfish for sale. Does anyone have information on these? I looked on google, and didn't get any results.
Im highly interested in these.
Any information / experiances would be top notch!

They are completely brackish fish. They are known as "freshwater" lionfish because they are simply not found in the ocean normally and the discoverer was too lazy to put BRACKISH. They grow to, I believe, 6-8 inches long, eat meaty foods, and will eat anything that will fit in its GIGANTIC mouth.

Needs medium to high end brackish water- 1.010-1.018 SG

Now that I checked your tank specs, please do not get one as it will not fit in any of your tanks and will die soon after it gets home. Unless you are buying a new 29-45 gallon tank with brackish water, then don't attempt to keep one.

Those who think it is OK since it is "freshwater", consider this. Put a freshwater fish in saltwater or vice versa, and what happens? It dies due to water conditions that are unnatural. Brackish is somewheres in between, so it will last a while, but will become sick easier and will live maximum 1/3 of its life expectancy.

I completely agree with oddball, and I think you should heed the advice that has been given to you.

I'm not sure if you're heard of "freshwater morays", but my LFS sells them in their saltwater tanks. A lot of brackish water fish will need marine conditions when adults.

is in the family of batrachoididae, will live in fw but isnt natural for these fishes. is a brackish water fish, very close to local oyster toad fishes here,.
my advise is it will eat any fish it can and iv'e herd if hungry will also go after a finger if giving the chance..
