I am starting a freshwater nano cube. I got this as a gift. It seems ideal for a salt reef, but at least OK for freshwater. Is there anybody out there that has a freshwater environment in one. Did you modify the current/flow or do most fish adapt?

24 gallon nano cube

I've had a heavily planted 24g nano cube going for around 4-5 months now and its been great. I haven't modifed it whatsoever, and I haven't run into any problems yet. The flow from the filter output is fairly heavy, but its not a problem when properly aimed.

I can upload some pics if you'd like.

I have a 12g. I ordered a change of light bulb. It is 24 W with 50/50 now. I am buying a daylight 6400k. I would love to see pics. Do you have fish in your planted tanks? Which direction do you aim. Can anbody explain how oxygenation is accomplished in a nano? Is it from the increased flow out of the filter?

I too have a 24 Nano planted. As far as aiming the return you just have to play with it until you get it where its not blowing/ripping your plants. I'm not 100% sure how O2 is accomplished but I've never had any problems with it so i'm not worrying about how it happens just that it does. I will say that when you first put fish in there they will go crazy due to the increased flow, but they will adjust. I have Kribs in mine that have spawned twice now (ate the eggs the first time and now they are taking care of the second brood).

gas exchange ususally happens with movement at the surface, so yes, filters are the main cause of this.

I have pictures of my 10g in my sig.

I would love to see pics. I am still running on 50/50 10000k bulbs for reef and they appear to be keeping tank at around 80 deg. F. Is this your experience. I bought heater thinking back to my older tanks that lost heat like mad. Any input from nano owners appreciated.

what about at night when your lights are off? I don't know where you live, but some people in warmer environments can get away without using heaters. I'm in So Cal, so it isn't exactly chilly, but my room doesn't see drastic temperature changes (face sunrise). My heater goes on and off all winter night long.

It drops about 4-5 degree at night. I live in Wyoming which is about 35 at night outside and 60 in daytime. House is probably 62-70. Do you go without a heater?
