Are there any freshwater puffer fish that can be put in a tank with other aggressive fish such as cichlids? or will they all just attack anything they can?

the only freshwater puffers are about a half inch long, the dwarf puffer. they should be kept in a species-only tank with lots of room and no other tankmates except maybe for otos, but not if the puffers bother them.

other puffers like the figure 8 and green-spotted are brackish, which means that they can't be put with any freshwater fish.

There are other FW puffers. South American Puffers grow to around 4-6 inches, and Fahaka puffers get quite large. There are several other FW puffers as well, but no puffers are suited to the community aquarium, due to aggression.
