I was at my lfs today and they had two types of puffer fish, a figure 8 puffer and a "Freshwater puffer fish". upon doing research, I found three different types of puffer fish that were listed as fresh water fish, the figure 8, the dwarf puffer, and the green spotted puffer. I was under the impression that puffers required brackish water. SO can someone tell me which, if any would be able to live happily in freshwater?

a lot of people say otherwise but ive keeped spotteds in fresh before i never found out if they were or not but ive had them in full fresh and ive seen them in full salt.

Most BW fish, and even the BW->SW fish, are quite tough in relation to water composition. They can withstand FW for quite extended periods (my first GSPs were kept in hard FW, I did not know any better). But they will be stunted there, and will be more sensitive to disease and especially external parsites and skin problems, and live much shorter lives than in their proper water conditions.

Becareful with the Fahaka. I've had mine for about a year. It's pretty big. I've had to upgrade the tank. It stinks. I have a big tank and a lot of plants. He's the only fish who I can put in there. Freshwater puffers are A LOT more agressive than any salt water. Fahakas are very pretty, and mean...
