freshwater snowflake eel?

I was sold an eel by that name a few years ago. It didn't have much of a snowflake pattern but was brown with more of a moray shaped head. He was about 7-8 inches long. Anybody know what the proper name might have been? I'd like to get another of them.

I kept him in mild brackish in a 20H tank with a feeder guppy population. It was pretty cool to watch him stalk the guppies.

He was doing well until I got deployment orders and gave him away. Regretfully I have no pictures of him.
 
It was a White Cheek Moray. Out of all Moray species it's the nost tolerant of low salinity. But it's still a sw creature.
 
There are a variety of eels that will adapt to brackish conditions. I believe Gymnothorax tile is the species most commonly sold as a FW snowflake.

This is somewhat incorrect, as Gymnothorax polyuranodon tends to be the only moray with any signific level of success in freshwater. Check video of neoprodigy's eels he had in FW eating pellets and everything.

Personally, I've kept a couple of freshwater tolerant species, but still recommend full marine for long term success

Yup.
 
I've decided not to get another one. There's so many different opinions about what salinity they need. I also wound up with a 125g and want to do a large community tank. No predators.
 
Sorry to hear that, seems like a wast to have a new 125 without big predators. would look nice as a saltwater tank with the eel of your choice as part of the stocklist
