Buy eclipse tanks...

The tank pictured is an Eclipse System 12, less than one month old, with roughly 2 weeks of use. It has been sitting on my desk at work, filled and running until I noticed what can only be described as a catastrophic failure.

Oh my goodness! Good thing you found and emptied it before it emptied itself in your work space!

Is it possible someone might have hit the tank? Perhaps a cleaning service or another person with access to the office? Have you called Marineland's customer service to see what they have to say?

Oh my goodness!! That is terrible!! Were you able to rescue your fish?

I just bought an eclipse brand aquarium a few weeks ago . . . please keep us updated on what you find out.

Thats crazy. It does look like it may have been hit by something/someone though. I just can't imagine it would spiderweb like that without something to start it.

That's what I'm thinking, it looks like tempered glass that took a blow from something solid. Regular glass would have shattered outright. It's interesting that Marineland uses tempered glass on the tank sides as well as the bottom. Even AGA I think only used tempered on the bottom for the smaller tanks.

Yikes I have one now for a month. I figured with so many high reviews online, it would be a safe bet. I've read a few here which are going to keep me having a very close eye on mine. So far, nothing but a few self-inflicted scratches. /sigh I'm pretty sure mine didn't suffer whatever mis-manufacturing woes this one did. (It's been redone 4 times this month, including visits to my bathtub and back. If something was to crack, it would have probably done it then I hope? But still, yikes.)

I'm wondering if water temperature changes plays any issues with acrylic. One time I put a hot bowl of spaghetti on my glass coffee table. POP.

is that an eclipse 12? looks just like what happened to mine. after removing the fish and cleaning it i put it outside in the yard so that the gravel in the bottom could dry out before packing it away. i think it was the hot sunlight that did it.

To all of those saying something "hit it." The cracking is on the back of the tank. It would have been physically impossible for anyone to hit the back of the tank in the position it was placed. The tank massively failed.
