Well I thought my problems with bloodfins dying were under control. I only had 2 left and they seemed to be doing good. I came home from work today to find one swimming upside down and sideways. His back half has been attacked and part of it is gone! All I have in my tank is 5 glofish tetras (which are modified white skirts) and 6 black skirt tetras along with the 2 remaining bloodfin tetras. The bloodfin that was attacked is not going to make it and I need to euthanize him. What should I do with the remaining bloodfin? Do you all think the black skirts did this? I may go to the fish store tomorrow. Should I get some more fish to add to the tank? Just watching the fish in my tank, they never have seemed aggressive towards each other. I am surprised this happened. What should I do?

Thanks!

Black Skirt Tetras are surprisingly aggressive but with 11 I would think they'd be attacking each other - though 11 is rather large a number for a tank only 37 gallons, they could have done it. Check your filter intakes as well though, the fish could have gotten stuck in one. Finally, what are the perms? It could be a serious ammonia burn or some sickness like rinrot or a fungus (unless finrot is a fungus, I've never been clear on that).

He could just be the victim of the "any sick/injured fish is fair game to munch" rule. or a sneaky leech. or sharknado

0 ammonia, 0 nitrites. I just did a water change thursday. Last night the bloodfin tetra looked good, I didn't notice any rot or fungus. I had to work 12 hours today. My wife forgot to switch the led lights from moonlight to daylight today. So, the fish where in the dark all day. When I got home and turned the lights on, thats when I noticed the bloodfin had been attacked and partially missing back portion. I don't know what to do with the 1 remaining bloodfin. Will the others gang up on him?

I too would think it was the "skirts", but with 11===???? Not so sure.

I guess it could have got injured and the others started picking at him. What should I do with the last bloodfin left?

Take it to a LFS either for credit, or just to donate it? I have given away many fish to petshops, mostly when I had too many babies.
