I just wanted to post this random event and encourage others to tell funny stories of the goings on in their tanks.

The other day I added two Ottos to my 10 gal tank and within minutes, one was leading the school of tetras. I was confused until I found out why. the otto was pushing the betta around like he owned the place.

The other day, when I was feeding Patriot, my male Betta, he decided that I wasn't dropping pellets quickly enough, and jumped up to try to take one from my hand...luckily, my fingers were in the tank, and it's one of those 2.5g mini-bows, so there's only a small hole to jump even if he wanted to. He also flares at an extension cord behind the tank...

I once placed a purple rock in my betta tank. He spent well over 4 hours constantly coming back and flaring at the rock. He just couldn't understand why this intruder wouldn' leave. Then every so often I would find him hiding behind a plant, probably coming up with a plan to attack this new guy.

sometimes my oscar gets so impatient when im about to put pellets or some other food into the tank, he whips the surface with his tail splashing me in the face. Its like hes attempting to knock the food out my hand....

I have a pretty good one (mainly because it didn't end badly). I have a small cat named Sadie, who was even tinier as a kitten. About 6 months ago (she wasn't quite adult then) I accidently left the access lid to my 90 gallon open after feeding. Sadie is always attempting to convince me to give her some shrimp pellets, I guess she likes how they smell. This day she decided to jump up on the top of the tank and see if she could get some (or perhaps a tasty fish) for herself. Fortunately I was sitting in the room reading and I heard a yelp and a splash and looked up just in time to see her plunge all the way into the tank. The way the tank lid opened only partially made it hard for her to get out, so she was suspended and flailing under the water. As I lept up and ran across the room to free her, my breeding convicts decided she was bothering their nesting site and actually were trying to bite her. I think she was too panicked to notice but it was hilarious to see a pair of convicts attacking a cat.

Incidentally she is fine, and seems to have a healthy respect for water now. I am also very careful to close the lids to the tanks.

Also Childawg's post reminded me. I am not feeding the fish in my tank while I do their sick treatment since the water parameters are questionable (although they are going back down even before the water change I did this morning). I was doing a water test a few hours ago and one of my severum jumped about 5 inches out of the water to bite my finger. It didn't hurt but I almost dropped the test tube I'd just filled out of surprise. Guess they don't like the no-food policy.

Its not a personnel story of mine but I remeber reading it somewhere...Dahlia reminded me of it. This guy had a large tank in his living room with some big koi in it. The tank didnt have a lid and he had a cat. Now the cat liked to sit next to the tank, and one day it let its tail over the water....and a huge koi jumped out and grabbed its tail and dragged it half way into the water. I head another story about an oscar doing a similar thing to another cat....makes me want to get one just to see if my fish can beat it up :D :D

I thought of another one, though it isn't about a fish. I had an apple snail when I was in college that decided to migrate. I suppose it thought it was coming ashore to lay eggs or something, but it fell out of the top of the tank and into the floor. I noticed it missing right away but was unaware at the time that apple snails liked to come onto land at all or that they could actually crawl a pretty good distance. I noticed it missing and searched, but found nothing. A week later I found it across the room under my dorm fridge. Thinking it was dead, I popped it into a cup of water hoping that the water would keep it from smelling until I could take it out later that evening. Lucky for me I didn't go bury it under the banyan tree outside right away since once dampened, it came out of its shell. It lived another 8 months (was already fairly large) after that.

Not that I recommend racing your snails in your kitchen floor.
