Ha that was a pretty good laugh. I hate getting fishy water in my mouth so I just submerge the pipe and everything in the tank and fill it up and then put my finger over the end and put it in the bucket. It saves alot of mouthwash.

I have a question to throw in here though. I have a tank that needs some substrate cleaning but I don't want to buy a gravel vac and have it not work. So heres my question. How deep does the water have to be to work because mine is only 7 inches at the deepest?

It will work fine as long as the hose is below the level of the siphon.

You can siphon in 2" of water. You may have to do the hose suck method to get it started tho. Good luck

ha clenz i still do the same, i have a 25 ft hose though, so i just do a quick suck of air and then it still takes a few seconds for the water to get to the end so it works for me, its too much of a hastle and prone to splash water doing it the "proper" way
