FW Moray Eel...

i have one and i keep the salinity around .010/.008. i work at an aquarium store and the ones being kept in fresh water never look so good. Ive asked many people and looked on many sites and the information about theese eels varies so greatly. Ive realy had to feel out what the best conditions are for my little Eelio(thats what i named him, lol) to anyone starting out a tank for one of these guys i would reccomend sand instead of gravel becuase mine has cut his little nose trying to pus rocks around. also i cannot stress enough how important it is to keep the water extreemly clean. water changes at least evry 2 weeks are a must. i tried feeding mine ghost shrimp but hes so dumb he can never find them. I just stick to frozen krill which he loves becuase hes just too stupid to catch live food. they definetly need plenty of hiding spots. they hate bieing out in the open and will usually only come out when you feed them and at night. hope i helped

do you guys think a G. polyurandon would be ok in a 29g? i'm going to upgrade my 10g BW and have been thinking about stocking alot lately.

never mind, i did some more research and they get 3'. looks like i'm going to have to wait and try to find an E. rhodochilus if i want a moray.

just wanted to throw in some really important facts about eels

-The eel you are looking at needs at least a 40 gallon tank and larger when fully grown...

-provide many caves overhangs for him to hide in...

- There are no true FW morays...they need brackish water when young and a full marine setup when they reach the adult stage, many people do not understand this, please do not buy this eel unless you are prepared to have a fully marine setup!!!

sorry, I didnt mean to sound so cruel but i had to stress that out

oddball

I keep my GSP at 1.022 - 1.023 and he is doin awsome!!!

I keep him at the same salinity i have always kept marine and i couldn't ask for a happier fish!!!:dance2:

I've kept my Snowflake Eels in the past in the same setup and they did great!

FW Eeels always do better with salt..Brackish is the way to go!

ive heard from many fish stores they can live out their lives in brackish water. Mine is almost full grown and he is doing so well in brackish...but now i'm thinking maybe i need to move him to salt? i dunno ive heard so many different things. mine is doing so well in BW

he will do better in full SW conditions though.

im goin to turn over my brackish into a reef eventually, and my moray is the only guy that gets to stay
