galss tops, hoods, cover for 125????

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a 125g. tank. It is manufactured by all glass aquariums(at least a sticker on it says so.) I bought it used so Im not sure how old it is.
Im looking for glass tops or even more so hoods that will fit this aquarium. Ive looked all over the net and have been all over to aquarium supply stores and I cant seem to find what I need to fit this particular aquarium. The measurements are 72"x18"x.........(not sure of the depth and it doesnt matter here.) I can find 36"x18" hoods and glass tops and hoods, too which would work just fine. But the issue is that the top of this aquarium is divided into 24" sections. I cant find this length anywhere that will correspond with the 18" width. Ive tried going through All-Glass aquariums, been through ebay, searched Drs. foster and smith.com,etc... Ive scoured ten aquarium supply stores personally as far as two hours away.... Im starting to grow a lil frustrated.
I dont mind going with the 36" hoods or tops but I dont want to modify this aquarium if I dont have to. Does anyone have any referrals for me or have any other suggestions to find a solution for this problem?????
 
glass top for aquarium

Mine is a 90 USG aquarium, but what I did, to save money was go to an autoglass dealer and get them to cut me glass, and smooth the edges, and I went with 1/4" glass, so that my cat could lounge on the top of the aquarium and watch the fish go by. I left some cut-outs for my filters, and a place to feed the fish, etc. It works well, and I just put a fluorescent lighting strip right on top of the glass.

Every month or so, I just take the glass off and clean it. Because the entire top is glass, more light can get into the top as well, and there is no plastic to break. My aquarium has some plastic moulding around the top of it that the glass fits into. But I have another tank with no such plastic moulding, so for this smaller tank, I just had the glass cut a bit wider - for an overhang at the top,like what you might see in a coffee table, but with a lot less overhand. I like it a lot, and I would never go back to the standard canopies that fish stores sell. :dance

I did indeed overlook the versa top correctly fitted for my aquarium through all-glass and drs. foster and smith sells it...... Id rather have a hood with lighting, but I guess the strip lights that came with my purchase will do for now as all glass seems to manufacture a hood(s) that will fit but even foster and smith do not have it, Ill keep looking though...

As for the auto-glass custom top..... Good idea that I may try in the future.

You could always us plexiglass that you custom cut yourself. Its cheaper and plexiglass lets in almost all of the light rays without distorting them. Glass prevents a lot of light from getting through and bends it. This is an important thing to consider if you grow plants.
 
I would recommend against the plexiglass, big time. I had plexiglass lids on my All Glass 210, and after about 2 months they started to bow inwards to such a degree that I was afraid that they might fall into the tank. I used 1/2" thick plexi with 1/8" aluminum reinforcements crossing the open spans, with only a 48" cool 40W flourescent bulb suspended over the top. I had to end up getting the versatops, after wasting a lot of time (but fortunately I had gotten the plexi for free).
 
Hmm. I actually agree... I forgot to mention the bowing :-D
If you get a thicker piece, the bowing isn't as bad... But I have a 55 gallon with a bar in the middle so I use two smaller pieces across the aquarium. It makes it easier to do maintanence and the pieces barely bow.
