Okay, so I got a new fish tank yesterday and was transferring some gravel over to the new tank to seed bacteria. My friend who thought he would make himself useful by moving some water into the new tank dunked a gatorade bottle into the tank that still had some gatorade in the bottom. Not a lot, just a little. I'm not certain whats going to happen, I did a 50% water change.

I think you'll be ok. It sounds like it was a very small amount and it was diluted by the water.

If it was just a tiny dribble and you've already done a 50% change, I don't think you need to worry about it.

well i have a bottle of gatorade in front of me:
water, high fructose corn syrup, sucrose syrup, citric acid, natural flavor, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, modified food starch, glycerol ester of rosin, yellow 5.

well, it will increase the salt (salinity) of the tank slightly, increase your ph, add some preservatives, and a bunch of sugar.

IMHO, few water changes and you will be fine. but if you said that there was just alittle bit. i wouldnt bother doing anything besides the 50% water change you already did.

I wouldn't worry about it. I had a whole bottle (16oz) fall into my 75 thanks to a friend using it as a cup holder. The only thing that happened was the water got really cloudy, and algae when crazy. I had no deaths of any of my fish, and within a day the filters had it all cleaned up after i did a water change.

My daughter put sugar into my 5 gal betta tank. A few water changes later and a bacterial bloom and it was back to normal. The betta was fine as well as the shrimp. I do have to say, they did seem a little more active while the sugar was in there though.

I was worried mostly because my loach became unusually active--zipping around the sides of the glass. But thank you all for your reassurances :)

it was a sugar high
or
he got freaked out by the bottle that almost hit him in the head.

I think it's funny, no matter what could possibly go wrong where one member posts a question to ask about it (like this little bit of gatorade) there will always be someone here who's had the exact same thing happen before... only much worse (a whole bottle of gatorade). The depth of our collective experiences and misadventures is truly amazing!!

how's about one morning I got into work, sat down with my cup of coffee, and opened a packet of sugar.... right into the tank I put it.... no idea what the heck was on my mind and didn't realize it until it was just about empty. Did a 50% water change and never even noticed anything change in the tank....
