Hi guys I'm not sure in which section this is more adapted but here goes:

I have bought some plant after a very long time and I was surprised to see most plants coming in small sealed cups without water. The roots are in some kind of gel. The ones I bought in particular come from ADA.

I know I have to remove the gel before planting. What I am wondering is what do I do with the left over gel. Is it useful in anyway? What do you guys generally do with it?

It's mostly harmless, a few nutrients and such for the plants and some sort of felling agent.

I normally wash it down the drain or put it in the garbage if it's some of the larger stuff that I remove off first.

The gel is just a nutrient-rich medium for tissue-cultured plants. It’s not really useful once you remove the plants. Some people rinse it off and toss it, while others say it’s safe for compost. Just make sure to rinse the roots well before planting to avoid any tank issues. 👍
