getting starting

For tanks in the 20-75 gallon range you really need a minimum of 2 WPG. Now there are some plants that can survive with less light. But they will grow very slowly if at all.

you dont have to go 2wpg. he points out that there are low light plants that will live with less light.

power compact lighting from ahsupply.com is great. when i was setting up my tank thats what i wanted but didnt have the money. i went with T8 shop lights. later on a added a couple power compact lights, Co2 and ferts.

as for the gravel you want small this is what Rex says about this also.
gravel which it should not be as normally gravel has a grain size in excess of 4.5mm

again i was going cheap. i got gravel from home depot cleaned it and has worked great for me. i have no idea what size it is just that it works for me.

has for the gravel vac i use it where there are no plants and where there are i move it around the top so it kicks the dirt up.

:coffee2: hey mgammer, you were up late. thanks for the tip. I'm going to check AH out and h/d. at 1-2pounds a gal., lfs gravel can really add up

hey, checked out ah supply. very cool. good deal, everything considered. that will probably take a couple weeks to save up for, but seems worth it. didnt hvave a chance to look at sand today. is there a particular name on the bag? thanks
