What is a GFCI, i see it on online shops saying you should plug things into this to be safe... do normal household plugs have this or should i buy my own?

Ground Fault Circuit Interupt

Most states require them for any outlet within so many feet of a source of water, like sinks and tubs. You can retro fit existing outlets by purchasing them at the hardware store.

i still dont really understand, so i need to buy something or will a normal plug (with no extention cord or those multi plug things) have the GFCI? I dont mind buying one if it is for the safty of my equipment and my house but i just need to know if i need to buy one since i may not have one.

Would buying something like this be any good?

think of it this way...
if you have a short with standard outlet the curent will still flow until that short reaches the panel, and trips the circuit....a GFCI outlet is made to sense that short, and trip instantly, reduceing the chance for electrocution and fire...A GFCI breaker protects all the lines on that circuit

BINGO

they can be installed at the circuit panel or a simple outlet(GFCI)

they're the outlets you might have in the bathroom that have a TEST and RESET button. i bought one but didn't install it since my surge suppressor has it on the plug. should, but this house has a million circuits and i dunno what to turn off and i got 3 roommates that prob wouldn't like me killing everything. simple as disconnecting 3 wires on old one and putting in the next. they're approx $10 at walmart.

ok i know what they are now, so i cna tell if my house has one if my plug has a reset button or something right? If it doesnt i'll buy one right?

i guess i'll need to buy on, i'll check out home depot or something
