GH Testing Question
Tank 20 gals – long 30” x 12” x 12”
PH : 7.0
Co2 = 8
Ammonia: 0.0 mg/l
NitrIte: 0
NitrAte: .0
PO4: between .1 and 2
Iron: .2
Hardness: (GH): 25 ppm
Akalinity (KH): 89 ppm
Filter: Penguin 170 Bio Wheel Power Filter
Co2 Ladder System (with Co2 monitor)
Light: SmartPac 65W (white light)
Substrate: Floral Base and black sand
Heater: Temp in tank 72-74 degrees
1 fake Driftwood, 1 lava rock, river rocks
Fish:
7 neon tetras
15 ghost shrimp
2 Cory Cats
1 Bristlenose Cat
Live Plants: 7 Java Plants and 4 Banana Plants, Anachrias, Carrot Tops, 2 arrow plants, Cardinal Plant and some Glossostigma
I have purchased a Red Sea GH / KH testing kit. I use RO Water in my tank. When I test the KH it is at 89.5 ppm. However, when I test the GH, it cannot get the test to turn color. I have put as much as 30 drops in and still orange. (it must turn green for the GH). they told me to use Equilibrium in my water since it is RO water, but if I cannot get the test to turn, I am afraid it is already too high in GH.
Can someone help me with this question? Could my test be bad?
