I bought 3 ghost shrimp on saturday, and it looks like they all have clear/white feces. Im guessing the feces are supposed to be brown, and that the colour they have could be an indicator of a bacterial infection or parasites like it can be in fish. Today I recieved some duckweed from a member here, and I stupidly put my fingers in the water (this is just a 10 gallon with the 3 ghost shrimp) to get it off, and then put my fingers back in the rest of the duckweed to get more. I wanted to put some in my 20 gallon too, but I dont want to risk the chance of introducing parasites (if thats what it is) into the aquarium. What can I do to make the remaining duckweed "safe"? Ive heard that the product "life bearer" is good to disinfect plants, but Ive never seen it locally.

actually i think clearish white fecal matter is normal for ghost shrimp.

from my experience anyway.

yes, you're right, if they were fish, i would worry. but i'm pretty sure that with ghost shrimp you're just fine.

I wouldn't worry too much. Depending on what they ate, the clearish poo can be alright. Mine would do that after they ate frozen bloodworms...almost as if the "shell" or "skin" was making it's way back out;)

As far as the duckweed bit, sticking your fingers in quickly like that really shouldn't be anything to trouble yourself about. If the poo indicates anything, it'd be internal parasites (which Ive not personally seen in shrimp) and they need to be on the inside of the shrimp to live, so they're not really out and about floating through the water.

I'd say you're good to go, as of now.

Thanks guys. Well, the duckweed is in the 20 now. I moved my 18 (didnt know exactly how many there were until today) white clouds into a 15 gallon sterilite storage container (clear, as in see-through) with the emperor 400 from the 20, and they will go in my 29 gallon rubbermaid container (also clear) when I can get some bleach to clean it out. So now my 20 only has 5 black neon tetras, I put a small filter on there (100 gph) so the duckweed would actually have a chance of floating (dont think it would of with the emperor 400...). Within a month or so I think I'll add a few more black neons, maybe a male betta, maybe some cories...
