Fist experience with shrimps. I have one little hiding place that the shrimps like to hang out. They really seem to love the blood worms. Question - how often do they need to eat or at least feeding them the worms and if i feed them in the same place each time will they remember that that is the spot?
Shrimp require little food, when compared to most fish. They will forage for algae and microbial food. I feed my shrimp colonies three times a week. The best way to determine how much food yours need is by experimentation.
First, provide a small portion of good (say 1/8th to 1/4th of a algae wafer, crushed not quite to the size of sand, or a pinch of fish flake). Watch your shrimp carefully for the next 10 minutes. If all of the food is quickly devoured, then repeat the process. If the food is eaten in under 10 minutes, provide another small portion of food. However, if it takes more than 15 minutes for the shrimp to finish eating, stop there. Note how much food they ate, and the approximate population count of your shrimp colony. Interestingly, the healthier the tank, the less food you will need to provide the shrimp. You should repeat the process approximately every few days.
As for a specific feeding spot, I personally wouldn't do that. With all of the food concentrated in a single location, there will be more jockeying for food, and the young or weak may be less likely to get their fill.
I normally give my feather fin cat and kuhli loach 1-2 algae tables every other day, or at least when I remember. They are usually gone the next day. I also feed the tank a few shrimp pellets scattered across the tank. All the other fish get to the worms pretty fast.
Ive never had shrimp by them selves, always with other fish, and I would just throw in a little extra food, whatever it was. A tab more flakes, a tad more shrim and carnivore pellets. The fish would eat and there would be plenty of leftovers for the shrimps. It seemed to work out pretty well that way.
