1 of my 2 ghost shrimp turned cloudy and lost his long antenaes. i thought he was dead after a couple days, but looked a few minutes later and he was off on a mission elsewhere. this was a couple days ago and i've been reading up on the molting process and am waiting for him to die or shed his skin. he's active and continually feeding, plus he always notices when when i get near the tank.

if this is how they start off molting by changing colors to the milky color, how long does it take for them to split from their old skin as it's been 5 days since i noticed the change and he hasn't gone to the toilet bowl in the sky yet either;) ?

our other ghost shrimp continues to be be transparent, water chemistry levels good, other fish healthy and other info on tank in "red headed zebra tetra starving?" post.

thanks for the insight...

am sure i have read in here some were that they turn cloudy when they are dieing. if thats the case sorry to hear it!!

Not the same I know, but one of my Red Cherry Shrimp did exactly the same, ie turned the same milky white and then died somewhere between one and two weeks later. Just spotted him stuck to the filter intake this weekend.

I hope he pulls through.

They turn cloudy when they die most of the time, but I have had a few of my Ghost Shrimp remain cloudy and move about the tank for a couple weeks at least.

yep the cloudy means death, as the little guy kicked the bucket today, of course in a unreachable location :[
