Hi guys, i have a couple of questions if anyone could help out.

My Wife just noticed that our glass catfish has lost it's tail.

I would normally always check where the cat is hiding as we lost his companion the day after we got them home.

Hopefully this will not be a stupid question, but will the tail grow back. Ive read other articles with fish regrowing fins [plecos, loaches etc] and would hope that we dont lose this little guy.

Unfortunately, the shop we use [the only one] has not had any more stock of these or i would get one or two more for company.

We bought a small 30ltr tank for the guppies which were dropping fry like wild fire, this is a coldwater tank, and we acclimatised the guppies once the tank was cycled, and they are doing fantastic.

We purchased 2 albino corydoras which the fish shop acclimatised for us for use in the cold water tank, and they appear to be doing swimmingly - no pun intended.

The other day the tank had approximately 30 eggs 'glued' to the glass so have to assume that the cory's have laid the eggs. I managed to rescue about 6 of the eggs, and have these in a floating fry tank.

The eggs appear to have some form of furry growth over them and im reckoning this is not going to be good for the eggs.

Is there any way to tell the sex of the cory.

Hopefully the eggs will hatch, as it's pretty amazing seeing this happen and grow into full size fish.

If the damage is limited to the fin itself then yes it willl grow back. If the whole fin is gone right down to the meat then no it won't. If you're talking about the common X-Ray Cat, Kryptopterus bicirrhosis you have a fish that reallly needs the company of its own kind, If you keep a group of 10 or so they're much less shy and tend to live longer.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately the little guy did not make it and i found him at the bottom of the tank starting to turn milky white, sad.

Worse still, my Yoyo loach which was thriving completely vanished from the tank!

Ive just done a big water change hoping to find it in the tank, but there was no trace whatsoever.

fish will do that, do you have a good cover over your tank? And how cold of a cold water tank, corie's need warmer waters to do well. As well as "Glass Cats", and also if the eggs have a sort of furry growth it's most likely a fungus so they wont hatch. my Biggest recommendation is to buy a book.
