Ever since I was a kid I thought you shouldn't put glass containers in the microwave... And the other day, fir the first time, I saw it being done...

Have I been in the dark all these years?? Could it be? That all this time I could have simply heated up water in a glass?

Can anyone shed some light on this issue??

thank you..

People say you shouldn't put tupperware, glass, all that sort of stuff in the microwave but I have never had a problem with it. The only thing I have had a problem with is butter and honey. Weird lightning looking thing goes across the microwave if I do.

Certain kinds of glass can be used in the microwave and I use glass bowls all the time for heating up food.

Matallic object should not be used unless the microwave manual says they can. Some model will accept small pieces of tin foil.

Glass can be dangerous in the microwave, specially if it's too thin. Also, the rotary base is made of pyrex glass.

Long ago, I found an Internet site that showed what happened whan you inserted soap, Cd's, incandescent bulbs and many other stuff. Miny lightning storm in your house.,

The biggest problem with glass in the microwave is flash-boiling. That happens when a liquid is heated above its boiling point and doesn't boil. If this happens, whenever the surface of the liquid is disturbed a violent explosion like (flash-boil) happens. It can seriously hurt someone.

Pyrex glass is made to keep this from occuring.

Here is a picture of a flash-boil.

This is a controled flash-boil. So it doesn't look as bad as it really is.
