I want to know your opinions on glass and acrylic aquariums. Im looking at saving up for a 120 gallon, and want to know what your experiences were with each kind. (i.e do i really have to worry that much about a glass one leaking, is the acrylic worth the cost...etc) any advice is greatly appreciated. Im very limited on income and am beginning to think all the acrylic aquariums are to specialized (round coners and all).

Peace
Anna

If I break my glass tank I have a 40gallon problem. If you break your 100g tank you have a 100 gallon problem. That's a big problem.

When I go for a bigger tank it'll be a reef-ready acrylic.

Im always going to use glass instead of acrylic.

I still scratch glass tanks, I cant imagine how badly ill mess up an acrylic tank.

I just bought a 135 gallon acrylic tank but haven't set it up yet. It is much lighter than my the glass 135 that I had before plus it is guaranteed for life not to leak. Yes they are expensive ( I paid $450 can. for the tank, stand, and accessories). I have not owned one before because of the scratching issue, but I thought about leaks and the weight and bought it anyway. The tank looks fine for being 4 years old and no scratches are apparent. Now I just need some stocking ideas.......

If you are going to get a tank that large I would get an acrylic. I have an acrylic hex that is 12+ years old and still looks great. I am always worried when I move a glass tank that it will be droped and all of that money will be wasted.

Thanks for the input! My main concern is leaking...i know that glass is more capable of leaking...but just how much? how long does glass last? Weight is not an issue as the tank will be on a concrete floor. BTW how I know how much acrylic tanks run, i went to the tenecor site...but how much do glass generally run? i have inly been able to fing whole sets on the internet. stand, hood, filter, heater, etc all in one for about a thousand bucks  .
