I just bought a plain 20G as a breeder tank...bought the glass top separately. Small problem though..it's the right size, one of the 2 pieces of glass is about 1/8", maybe even only a 16th too big...but anyway, I can jam it in, but of course the hinged lid doesn't work very well that way...

Anyway to "at home" shave a little of the edge of the glass safely?

Try extra fine garnet sandpaper, with a wood block. The glass should come down enough to fit nicely with a few minutes of sanding. This is also a good way to round off glass edges that are too sharp. Be careful to secure the glass so that it does not break. Use a flat solid surface with the edge to be sanded projecting slightly, and the glass section held firmly down with a towel or something similar.

just take it to a glass store and let them do it. should be pretty cheap (if they charge you at all) and a much safer/cleaner way to do it.
