Glofish dying?

the fancy guppy you see today in stores is a domesticated version of the Endler's Livebearer, which you may also see in the feeder guppy tanks. people started breeding them, and, well, i know that in the case of guppies, a breeder, finds a cool strain of color, or finage size or shape, and wants to preserve it, so sometimes the only way is to inbreed them, which makes many more of the same color strain, but it also weakens the fish.
now the females are being targerted to become more colorful too, and some have succeded in doing so, but they will never have the same finage or colors as the males.

the same thing is applyed to betta females. i have seen purple, redd, blue, white, all of the colors, but they are all uniform in finage size and shpe, where as the male bettas a little ways aways have the same colors but long, flowing fins and such

im not so sure about the goldfish though. its hard to say, since there have been strains for hundreds of years, but i think that sombody found a good form and made more of it. the worst i have seen is the celestial, with eyes that ony face up *shudder*

Thank you Dixon. And no, it can stay the way it is.

As for what Rowangel said, I'm about 90% sure that they were just heavy with eggs as no one else has shown any symptoms of other wise. I could be wrong as I am by far no expert but I'm pretty sure about it. As for the total of stress. Thats very possible. Between being moved from one tank to another (from the store to my home) then being put through a cycle, yes very possible even with the frequent water changes. My point in posting here even though I knew it was a good chance of just stress is to make sure that this is just stress and not something thats seen to happen when a glofish gets heavy with eggs. So far it looks like stress which IMO is better than having a disability.

Gills are fine, fins are held in normal positions, no strange growth. The ammonia has finally stayed at 0 and the nitrites are still a battle to keep down but I do PWC up to 50% daily depending on the results. The last glo fish died when the nitrites where 0 and we were fighting the ammonia spikes. She died during the water change. Very suddenly. One minute she was fine, then as I was filling the tank up. she started to swim funny. With in seconds she was dead. Tried running water over her gills but that failed :( The water temp was as close as I could get it. The coldest my water gets is 78F from the faucet. The tank temp was 75-76F. I wouldn't think 2 degrees would kill a fish so quickly though...... The water was treated with prime just seconds after the water started the fill the tank. I still find it hard to believe that the few seconds of untreated water would be the cause seeing that I do the same with all my tanks but perhaps I should treat before turning on the water? The biggest thing that I find confusing is that in a matter of approx 30 seconds she went from appearing 100% healthy to not being able to swim, to dead.

How new were these fish to your tank? I just skimmed and couldnt find the answer... Could it be some stress from a recent transfer? And, Im SURE you triple checked, but could she have been in shock, not dead? Sorry about your fish! :(

I have looked at both of my LFS and nobody even knows what a glofish is, are they only available online?
