This may seem really weird, probably not to you guys though, but I have found a fish that I have fallen in love with. For the tempermant, looks, and personality. I just think it's really cool! It is the Black Ghost Knifefish. As you guys know, I don't have my tank set up yet. So I want to make sure I can eventually house this fish. I read it's recommended tank size is 50gal. So we are planning on purchasing that. My question is what other fish could I put in with him, and also at what point in the cycling do I add him?

Thanks!

well, I don't know exactly how big yours will grow, but most get to be one or two feet long. he'll probably take up the whole biomass, so don't get any thing more if u go for it. cycling: don't really know, most likely same as most other fish.

You add the fish when you have completed the cycle process. They are cool looking fish and I have seen them housed with angels and algae eaters. I am sure there are other fish out there but I have not seen them personaly..

I don't think you realize how big these fish can get when fully mature. The sites I've looked at talk about 15-20"! So a 55gal would be okay for an immature fish, but not great for an adult.

They also require live foods, are nocturnal and require substantial shelter as they are pretty shy. I'd suggest you look more carefully into what's required to keep one before you make more plans and see if you're preprared to meet it's needs.

Frankly, I always figure the "recommended" tank sizes as the absolute minimum one can get away with--maybe! Usually they're hopelessly small for a healthy mature fish.
