I saw some absolutely beautiful and healty Gold Nugget Plecos today at a local LFS store that looked exactly like this one........

Anyways, im thinking of getting one in my heavily planted 72 gallon tank. I have some questions though.

1. How big do they grow, and do they grow as fast as comon plecos or much slower? The ones i saw were around 2 inches, how long would it take them to reach 4-5 inches?

2. Do they damage live plants like regular plecos?

3. How effective are they for eating algae. I dont need them for algae as i have ottos, but hey its would be a bonus!

4. Do they require any special diet?

5. Will a ph of 6.6 be harmfull to them? Ive read that they dont tolerate low ph?

6. Do they produce alot of waste like regular plecos?

Thanks all. If all is good, im gona go pick one up tomorrow. Its defenately the best **** looking pleco ive ever seen!

sorry, i also posted this in the bottom feader forum, but wasent getting many responses so i posted it here as im heading out tomorrow morning to either grab him or leave him. Theres only one left for 22 bucks Canadian!, so i gota hurry. Again, sorry for multiple posts....

They dont damage plants
get up to 7 inches approx
ph 6-8
eat almost anything at bottom (algae, waste, dead meat etc..)
and nearly as messy like common plecos

gold nuggets are hard to keep (for people like me) make shure that you have plenty of driftwood and nothing to scare it away from the driftwood.
I tried to keep a gold nugget, but my synendonis (who stays under my piece of driftwood) kept it from feeding off of the wood, and although I had plenty of algie on the back of the tank to keep a normal pleco happy, the lack of algie off of the driftwood caused it to slowly starve :(
