I currently have a male betta in a separate container. I'd like to put him in the tank eventually. Will he get along with the Goldfish and vice versa?

i wouldnt put anythin like a betta for a tankmate with a goldie if u want to have company for a goldie u should add more goldies :)

No, do not combine goldfish and bettas. There are a few reasons for this; One, bettas are tropical fish and need warm temperatures while goldfish are coldwater fish. If the goldfish is a fancy goldfish, then it has a betta-like tail which may make the betta want to attack it. Like jooranda said, if you want tankmates for your goldfish you'll have to get more goldfish (depending on the size of your tank, of course).

Generally betta's and goldfish do not get along well. They have very different temperments and do not get along well. Goldfish have a temperature range of 33F - 85F with the low 70's being their preferred temp. Betta can handle 60F-90F with their preference being around 80. Betta's are also mostly sedentary fish that spend long periods of resting between active periods. Goldfish are very active fish and will stress the betta out. Betta's like to rest in plants. Goldfish like to snack on plants.

They have very different behaviors and needs so they don't get along well.

BTW there are several good tank mates for goldfish - paradise fish, rosy reds, garra pingi pingi, and White Clouds all work.

Understood. Right now the betta is in a container at room temp, so I thought that the aquarium would be alright as far as temp is concerned. I put one in with my community fish a long time ago and didn't seem to have a problem.

I just wasn't sure about the Goldfish. I will be restocking my tank with 5-6 GF, so having tank buddies isn't the issue. I just thought my betta would be happier in the tank as opposed to the container.

While I agree that goldies and bettas should not be housed together, it is at the same time totally possible to have a planted goldfish tank. I do.

Please do get your betta a proper tank, a 5.5 gallon will do. Containers are death traps and extremely cruel, IMO.

My tank is 90gal. I've been posting questions frequently over the last couple of days. Most of the advice I've been given ranges around 5-6 goldfish. I am getting ready to re-vamp and restock the tank. Currently have cichlids. I'm new to goldfish, so any advice or info is appreciated.
