goldfish fin nippers?

my friend put her common goldfish in with a black moor and the common one tore up the fins of the black moor. are common goldfish usually fin nippers? or was this one just anti-social since it was kept alone for years?

All goldfish are capable of being fin-nippers. It is usually a mistake to keep fancy goldfish with common goldfish for this reason (and because they get to the food faster)
Most show breeders keep their goldfish in separate tanks to avoid this problem.

I have managed to cure some fin-nippers by isolating them for a few weeks but in this case it is probably because the common goldfish has become accostomed to living alone and the moors fins are just too tempting.

Sometiomes fin-nipping can be caused by hunger but this is usually in newly bought fish, I would expect your friends fish to be well fed since most pet goldfish are over fed anyway.

actually this one was probably under-fed. it was one of the neglected ones in a fish bowl. it is now happily growing by itself in a 55 gal.
