So besides like regular goldfish food like flakes, pellets, I was wondering what else is ok for goldfish to eat...I know about shelled peas ( mine love 'em)... Does anyone have any other ideas
they love blood worms too and brine shrimp. It's important to note here that flakes aren't the best food for goldfish or anything else that floats on the surface of the water. Fancies, especially suffer the consequences of swim bladder issues from taking in too much air while trying to gulp down the food at the surface. When that happens, and it gets to be too much, there's trouble. I thought it was a rare occurrence but unfortunately, it's not.
goldfish also like fresh fruits and veggies, from what I hear (haven't had goldies since I was about 12). I've heard people give them zucchini, as well as orange slices and watermelon (seeds removed). It seems like they'll eat just about anything. Just experiment and see what works!
Can you feed fresh fruit to goldfish before the tank is finished cycling or will that cause some sort of problems? Also how much fruit can you put in and how long should it sit in there before you take it out?
well, it won't be any worse than any food you would feed it (during cycling or not, doesn't matter). so just let them have it for a few hours, and remove it after that. you should be doing water changes frequently, anyway, to remove toxic waste water. but feeding them the fresh fruits and veggies during cycling won't add to your workload, in my opinion.
I have two fantail goldfish... and mine like pro gold sinking pellets, bloodworms, bananas, watermelon.. they also like shelled peas.
i tried romaine lettuce they werent too crazy about that though.
