Goldfish losing scales!!

My goldfish has started losing scales on both sides of his body. There aren't any sharp objects in the tank i've got some big rocks but they are all smooth with no corners.

What could be causing this and how do I treat it?

We had a goldfish what would pester and peck the others in our tank... he'd even pick scales of my oranda, 'Goldie'. My dad ended up flushing him when we were gone for the weekend... didn't even tell us the real story on how 'Kirby' disappeared until we were older.

Goldfish often lose scales, especially the male comets and commons. They're extremely active swimmers, and frequently brush up against any decorations.
It's nothing to worry about. As long as your water params are good and you keep up with all maintenance, you shouldn't have any problems. It's normal.
