This is a question that has been bugging me for a long time. I do feed my Jack Dempsey and turtle feeder fish once in a while as a treat. I am sure to keep the feeders healthy and to quarantine them before hand. Is there any difference in the nutritional value between the two? Is one better than the other and why?

I do breed gambusia in a pond as feeders. I only feed petstore feeders when it is too cold to breed or when there are not enough in the pond (which happens when a raccoon raids my pond).

If you have to choose between Rosies or comets go with the Rosies. Goldfish have alot of thaimine a in them which will increase the risk of parasitic infection particularly hole in head but also over time can cashed neurological damage to the fish

I have read that live-bearers are the lowest in thiamine.

Breed your own is what I'd do. Setup a smaller tank for livebearers if you can.

Seems like rosy reds are the winner! Just so everyone is clear, I DO breed my own livebearers. I have gambusia which are similar to really mean and large guppies. I breed them outdoors, and because it is cold, I am using petsmart feeders as a treat for my Jack Dempsey and turtle.
