I came home today to find my oranda(the ones with the huge warty head) goldfish stuck in a cheesy decoration. His head and front fins were through the hole and his body stuck in the inside and his tail out another hole. I couldn't figure out what to do considered hammer but ended up pushing his little fins back through the hole, then his head and turing him around myself and pushing him out a big hole. Guess what? the two other baby goldies have been eating his tail all day, and to top that off alot of his scales are missing around his head and fins! What do I do? He is in a 29 gal. w/ two other baby goldies(I know they'll outgrow it) Someone is going out to get a large breeder hang in the tank thing to quarintane him in or at least put the other fish that keeps wanting a tail snack in for a while, other than that what do I do? Help!!!!

Clean water, healthy foods--and separate the other fish. An injured fish will usually recover just fine if they aren't stressed by bad conditions and pesky tankmates.

Oh, and remove that ornament--IME, if a fish gets stuck once, it probably will do so again.

I removed the the stupid thing and he is in a nylon type "baby saver" and he has plenty of space. I also added stress coat that claims to help damaged fins. So do I just do a water change and let him be? How long should I keep him in the baby box thing? he has plenty of space and the water can flow through.

Sorry to hear that.

Natural healing process can take some time, so be patient. Just give him the best water conditions and a quality food.

Watch over him for any sign of skin abrassion that may end up in a bacterial/fungal infection. For this reason, I'd rather move him into a hospital solo tank, with the cleanest water possible. This way you'll reduce the likehood of infection. Also, if treatment is ever required, you can treat him without affecting your other tankmates nor risking your biological filtration.

It depends how long until the fins will grow back. Some of my guppies with tail injurys took a few weeks for their tails to grow back, and the coloring was always slightly different.

I had a pleco do that to me...twice. I ended up altering the decoration so it wouldn't happen again. Anyhow, he healed up fine, I just did my weekly water changes like always.

my one snail allmost got stuck.. he got unstuck after 20min. i was going to break my ornament open if he was not out in 20more mins...
