Hello guru's,

I currently own a book called, "Tropical Aquarium Fish, Comprehensive Edition", by Tetra. This is my old fish book from 1991, but I'm now back in the aquarium loop, and am looking for something more receint and comprehensive on tropical fish, with color pictures.

Is there a good book to purchase (or web site) for tropical fish pictures and their "requirements"? I'm setting-up an aquarium again, and just want a somewhat extensive reference to choose fish from.

The people at this site have always been helpful & informative, so there was no doubt on were to go to post this question!

Thanks again.

These are handy reference sites for all kinds of information:

(awesome site!)

As for books, I picked up from a used book store this one (though it is older than the book you talked about by a couple of years, most of the information in it is still valid and he is very comprehensive; it is a great guidebook for almost anything freshwater you'd like to do, and there are several other volumes and updated editions of his work):

Baensch, Aquarium Atlas

If you're looking at doing live plants like I'm getting into, I just picked this one up, and it's pretty recent. It's an awesome book:

Hiscock, Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants

Hope that helps.

I haven't been able to find any other site that's better or even close to this one!
AQUARIA CENTRAL ROCKS!

Agree with kooter! You do know AC has an extensive list of fish with pictures right?

Does your book list approximate heights of plants? I had trouble when I was searching the internet for a height guide for plants I was unfamiliar with. With terrestrial plants they always list a guide for that. It would definitely be helpful, although I know with stem plants you prune to get the height you want.

Hmm, on this site?

No, I didn't know this site had the pictures and decriptions of fish. I looked around once, but will give it another shot.

UPDATE: Ahhh, I guess I was forever stuck in the forum URL, and have never even looked at the main domain. Man, I'm such a newbie!

Plant height listings

Dahlia,

Sorry for the lag in responding... Yes, my book does have in the plant profiles section spec's like the maximum height, the growth rate, the area to plant them, the light required, etc. All around a very cool book, recommended to me by the people on this forum!

Take care!

Pretty  right now here in CA, though nothing like Alaska, LOL...

I'm the editor, so I must put in a word for my favorite magazine, Tropical Fish Monthly. But, back on track, I'd e-mail a friend of mine, Lee Finley of Finley Aquatic Books (finleyaquaticbooks.com). He reviews and sells all kinds of fish books. Thanks,
Ryan
