Hi

I have 2x Albino Oscar's about 3-4". What food would you recommend?
I have the normal flakes, pellets for the bottom dwellers, also have pellets just for cichlids and frozen blood worm.
What foods that i might have around my house that they would love?
Any other kind of food?

Many thanks

Matt

I feed mine just cichilid sticks normally and dried krill but I'm going to try to keep frozen beefheart in their diet now too.

My oscars never really went for flakes, and they've done very well with pellets. I have always fed them the Omega One brand cichlid pellets, and have great coloring and growth. They have never been sick. I also supplement with krill, shrimp, and occasional live food.

I would stick with the pellets as a staple, and supplement a variety of frozen foods like beefheart, mysis shrimps, and others.

Guppies or Live food

:hi: Since we're on the subject, I wanted to see what your take about feeding your oscars live food? I've heard from somebody that it makes them more aggressive that way? I think its good idea for us all to know about this particular part.
I am not trying to hijack your thread but I think this will make a great addition to your thread

In my personal opinion and experience, feeding live foods does not make Oscars more aggressive, I have many theories on why people say this, but haven't proven any of them. I feed some live foods, but stick to a staple of prepared foods. Shrimp are by far the favorite for most of my cichlids.

pea's without their skin is ment to be good for their digestion. Why without the skins I don't know it's just what I have read else where. Mine loves them but also makes a mess as well. If your looking for cheaper stuff around the house to feed them, worms from the garden are good non fatty meat and cooked non seasoned chicken. What ever you feed them try to make sure they get their vegies too. Mine gets a mixture of worms, from my worm farm and garden, sinking pellets aimed for the pictus, hoplo and red tailed black shark, beef heart, blood and black worm, peas, peeled carrot cause peel may have pesticides, guppies, mollies, swordtails and platies which I breed and peeled prawns when I spoil my self. Gotta give Brutus some the way he/she swims looking at me. Make sure I get a pat first though.

On occasion, I will feed rosy reds to my oscars. They get pretty bored and lethargic at times with the pellet food. The live food seems to perk them up a bit, at least in my tank. You need to quarantine the live food though if they are fish before feeding just in case they are not well. You don't want to pass their illnesses on to your oscars!
