Can anyone recommend some good LFS's in the Houston area? I actually live south of Houston, but there's nothing down here in Galveston. I'm interested in freshwater fish. Neptune's Garden is reasonably close to my home and I like the store, but their selection is rather limited. Right now, I'm looking for some ottos and they don't have any. The Petsmart in Webster does, but I'm not buying fish from them. I don't mind driving to get to good stores, but driving all the way into Houston just to search for a good store doesn't sound like much fun. I'd appreciate any recommendations or warnings.

Thanks,

Melissa

Village Tropical has a lot of otos now, S. Shepard at Richmond just north of 59.

Go to Villiage Tropical.... I have a store in SW Houston I check out now & then too but have to really watch their tanks (Fish Ranch on SW fwy & Bellaire) I love my NW Houston petsmart on 290 & W Tidwell and the one on Old Katy Road at West belt (Sam Houston Tollway) Both keep their tanks exceptionally clean and the one off the katy Frwy has knowledgeable peeps in their fish dept too.

I have alwasy heard good things about Neptunes Garden, but their selection is limited??? I would check back & see if it gets better....

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll look for some ottos at Village Tropical this weekend. I think that's probably closer to me than either of the recommended petsmarts.

Neptune's Garden is a good store, and the fish and plants I've bought from them have been healthy. It's just that lately they haven't seemed to have as many fish (at least freshwater community fish). I'm not sure when they get shipments--my last few visits might have been just before new shipments or something. I'll keep using them as they are by far the closest good lfs, but I wanted someplace else to go when they don't have what I want.

Thanks again.

Any others?

Sure!

Also try City Pet, I-59 at Beechnut, 713-271-7387.

Fish Ranch, Larchwood and Bellaire and 59, across the high way from GulfGate mall(?) 713-779-2591 (may have changed)

Both of those do plants so likely to have otos.

Call Aqua Botanical in Webster 281-286-2238, dunno what they have but it should be an interesting store.
