Does anybody here knows of good online sites where i can buy good plants for a good price? (please list sites) :read:

AquariumPlants.com -- I've ordered from here quite a bit
LiveAquaria.com -- ditto
AquaBotanic.com -- waiting for my first order
AquaBid.com -- various, I've ordered from 1 person on there
Azgardens.com -- waiting for my first order

As for price, pretty good, I guess. The plants I order are fairly rare so I can't really worry about price too much.

Thanks for the info. Seems like you have been buying a lot of plants lately. Making some new projects or just upgrading?

By the way, just noticed you are in the northern VA area. Any idea of a good fish store in our area? Thanks in advance

I use aquariumplants.com, and freshwateraquariumplants.com. I didn't know of those others.

Many new projects and upgrading :)
I'm putting together three new 75g Papua New Guinea Rainbowfish biotopes and a 65g "sorta of amazon but plants that herbivores won't eat" kinda thing.
Upgrading my 36g to a Red Cap Oranda tank, my 20g to a Pseudomugil furcatus PNG biotope tank and my 10g to a Pseudomugil gertrudae PNG biotope.

Yes and no, depends on what you are looking for :)

Super Petz in Annandale
Pros: huge store with mucho stock and dry goods. Half ot the store is fish, other half is other pets. They have a HUGE selection of cichlids (I mean huge, tanks and tanks of them) among other fish, some marine and other pets. Tanks are relatively clean and they have a LOT of tanks. I saw very few that exhibited any problems. Have not bought fish from them.
Cons: Their customer service sucks as it is impossible to get any help in the fish area. I probably will never buy fish from them. I just don't have the patience for this type of service. I'd rather buy online.

Vienna Aquarium and Pets in Vienna
Pros: great store, great selection, better than average marine selection. Tanks are "usually" clean and disease free. They specialize in pond and goldfishes, so there are tanks and tanks of koi and Fancy goldfish. There are a lot of "hard to find" FW fish as well. Otos, bichirs -- stuff that normal non-chain stores don't usually sell
Cons: Some staff not very knowledgable at all, but pretend to be. Very unfriendly and almost hostile. Their koi vats sit right out in the open and I don't know many kids, adults included!, that won't hang over the tanks to get the koi to surface. If they don't like that, then they should either rope off the area or post signs. They don't like having kids in their store -- mine aren't THAT bad -- and they won't hesitate to yell -- quite rudely -- at your kids if they even get near the koi vats. We will never go there again.

Fox Mill Pets, Two Stores (Franklin Farm and Elden Street)
Pros: Clean tanks, nice staff, stock Bio Spira, both FW and SW, and they push it to newbies who are buying a tank and fish for the first time. IMHO that's smart. Great prices on tanks and stands. Usual markup on anything else. The Elden Street store has a better fish and equipment selection as it is a bigger store, but I only live 2 minutes from the Franklin Farm one so I go there a lot. Bought all my new tanks and stands from that store. On first name basis with pretty well everyone. Excellent customer service. They make most of their money selling purebred dogs, but even when the store is packed (and it usually is after 4pm during the week and almost all day on Saturdays and Sundays) you can always get someone to help you with fish. One of the guys has a FW and a reef tank and is fairly knowledgable, the rest of the staff aren't too shabby. I've never heard them talk down to newbies.
Cons: Not as big a selection of fish as the other stores. No real marine section.

Hey thanks all the info there. I know about the Super Petz place in Annandale, that's just exactly where I live, just about 10 mins away. I do there whenever I decide to go to a fish store just to check things out. I've noticed that they do have a big selection of all kinds of fish and aquarium products. I also noticed that they are quite pricy compare to other stores, which is why I don't buy from them a lot. Their costumer service does suck, that's another reason not to buy from them.

I didn't know about the other 2 though, but will be checking them out. I'm reluctant about the Vienna Aquarium and Pets in Vienna place though. They really yelled at your kids?

Yea it does sound like it's many projects and lots of work. But it's a nice way to start the year though. I'm interested in seeing how the biotopes will come out. Do you intend to post some pics when you do?

Thanks again and good luck. (Oh god that's a lot of work :thud:

Check out Aquabid.com.
There is one particular guy on there that I've bought plants from in the past who is very reliable and reasonable. I think he uses the name 'Lowcoaster' or something similar to that.

I know this is an old thread but I just was wondering if I have met you yet or if you even still come to Fox Mill in Franklin Farm? I just started working here about a month ago and I am trying to get things in the fish department cleaned up and organized. If you havent stopped in for a while, come in and say hi. I'm usually working Mon, Wed, and Fri afternoon/evenings.

One good thing about aquariumplants.com is that they keep NO FISH in their plant tanks, so no need for quariantine or a bleach or permoxyn dip to get rid of ich or other parasites.
